Catherine Bearder MEP says back Kirsten Johnson in Oxford East to stop a damaging Brexit
Tomorrow we will be electing a new MP and a new government. This election will decide the kind of Brexit deal that will dominate the economy for the coming years.
As one of your local MEPs and a fellow resident of East Oxford, I believe we need our new MP to be someone who will be a strong voice for our open, tolerant and Remain-voting city.
We need someone who will fight against the damage of Brexit and make sure we all have a say in the final outcome. If you agree, then the best candidate is, without a doubt, Kirsten Johnson.
Both Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn supported Remain but have ditched their principles and are now committed to a hardline route that will harm the country and economy, especially here in Oxford.
Oxford needs someone who recognises the damage leaving the European Union with their hard deal will do to our businesses and manufacturing, our NHS, our universities, and our security.
Before you vote I urge you do a Brexit test on the candidates:
* Do they condemn the Oxford East Labour MP's support for the triggering Article 50 with no protection for EU citizens or British residents across Europe?
* Will they fight to keep us in the single market to protect local jobs?
* Will they fight to ensure that the people of Britain have the right to vote on the final divorce deal of Brexit?
If the candidates can't or won't answer those questions with a simple 'Yes', then they're not ready or fit to continue your fight.
